How it works
The first lesson
Your child meets a teacher on video, and the two of them play on one shared screen: they listen, look at pictures, guess, and say the answer out loud. The teacher sees what the child sees and helps at once. There are no marks and no tests. A game asks for one word, then one more, and every try is welcome.
- 25 minutes, free, one child with one teacher. The teachers are real teachers from See Guru, the company behind speakykid, approved to teach children. No card is needed to book the lesson.
- In the browser. Nothing to install: the child joins from the kid area, the child's own part of speakykid.com.
- In English, at the child's pace. The teacher speaks English and sets the pace by your child. The buttons and hints on the child's screen are in the child's language.
- It ends with a reward. The child sees “What you did today”, the words from the lesson and 10 reward stars. Once the teacher has chosen it, the child also gets the island on the program map where the course would start.
- Recorded for the report. Lessons with a teacher are recorded so that the lesson report can be written and the quality of the lessons checked. The recording is not shown in the parent area: you get the teacher's recommendation and the lesson report. It is deleted 30 days after the lesson.
Before the trial: 3 things.
Check the camera and sound
Do it on the device the lesson will be on. A computer or tablet with a camera works best, and headphones help the child hear the teacher. Use the latest Chrome or Safari, not a browser inside another app. No camera? The lesson still goes ahead: the teacher will hear the child.
Check the camera and soundTell the teacher about your child
If the account's home page shows “Help the teacher prepare”, answer its short questions: what your child enjoys, what matters most to you and anything the teacher should know. If it is not there, nothing is needed from you. The teacher uses the answers to prepare the lessons. Speaky, the helper, and the AI that writes the lesson report also use the answers you pick from the lists (what your child enjoys, your goal, how your child meets new people), never your own text. What you write yourself is seen only by the teacher and our support team, so leave out surnames and health details.
Open the home pageOpen the lesson 15 minutes early
Tap the link in the reminder that comes 15 minutes before: it opens the lesson without a code, and “Send the link to the computer” sends it on to the computer or tablet. Or press “Open the child's area” in the parent area. The lesson screen opens 15 minutes before the start with a camera check and a short warm-up game. When the teacher is there, the screen says so and the child taps “Go”.
Open the kid area
During the lesson: your role.
- Be near. Help open the lesson and check the sound, then stay within reach. Children aged 4 to 6 may want a grown-up beside them for the first minutes.
- Do not answer for the child. A pause and a wrong answer are part of learning, and the teacher knows how to help. A whispered answer takes the try away from the child.
- Celebrate. Praise the try, not the score. After the lesson ask what was fun and let the child show you the stars.
After the lesson: what you will see and what to do next.
- A message that the lesson is done, by email and Telegram if you connected it.
- The card “The trial lesson is done” on the account's home page, with “The teacher's recommendation”: the “Starting point” (your child's level and island on the map) and the “Recommended pace” (lessons a week). When the teacher marks them, the card also shows “What went well” and “What to practise next”.
- The report in Reports, a little later: what the lesson covered, “Words from the lesson” and a question for “Ask at dinner”.
- What to do next. Ask the dinner question, let the child play with the new words in “My words”, and decide about the course. Nothing is charged unless you choose one.
If the child cannot get in. Open the lesson again from the parent area with “Open the child's area”, in Chrome or Safari, and check that the device is online. The link in the reminder works once, on one device, from an hour before the lesson until 30 minutes after it starts; “Send the link to the computer” sends a new one. If the teacher is late, the screen says so, and after 15 minutes you can wait or choose a new time. If the child is late, the teacher waits up to 15 minutes after the start; after that the lesson can be marked as missed. Still stuck? Write to us.
Your child's safety and privacy
- Only one to one
- A lesson is your child and the teacher, no groups. There is no messaging with other people in the child area.
- AI only with your consent
- Speaky, the voice friend, and the spoken word check work only after a parent says yes. In talks with Speaky the camera starts off. You can withdraw consent in the parent area at any time.
- Grown-up decisions stay with grown-ups
- Moving or cancelling a lesson, changing the teacher and paying are behind a grown-up check.
- No ads for children
- The child area has no ads and no ad trackers, and search engines do not index it.
After a lesson with the teacher, AI writes you a short report from the lesson recording. Recordings are deleted 30 days after the lesson.
Lessons and the teacher
- The free trial lesson
- Every child has one: 25 minutes with a teacher by video. It is not a stone on the map. A family has up to three free trial lessons; if you need more, write to support. A trial lesson cancelled before it starts does not count toward the three. A child's trial can be moved at most 2 times in 30 days.
- The teacher's recommendation after the trial
- The teacher picks the island to start from, suggests how many lessons a week (2, 3 or 4) and writes a short note in English. All of it appears on the account's home page, in the trial lesson's card. With no recommendation, the child starts at Hello Island.
- How a lesson goes
- 25 minutes in the browser, in the lesson room: nothing to install. The child joins from the kid area, which you open from the parent area with “Open the child's area” on the device the lesson will be on. The waiting screen with a warm-up game opens 15 minutes before the start, and the way into the room opens as soon as the teacher is there. For the trial lesson, the link in the SMS opens it without a code, and “Send the link to the computer” sends that link to another device.
- A regular schedule
- Choose the days and times once, and the course's lessons are booked with the course teacher. If the teacher is busy on a date, that lesson stays on the balance and other free times nearby are offered. You can change the times in the schedule, with “Change the times”.
- Lesson reports
- After a lesson, a report appears in Reports: what the lesson covered, what went well, what to practise at home, the lesson's words (with a translation when your language is not English), an “Ask at dinner” question and the teacher's comment, if there is one. The report is written from the lesson's recording, so it takes a while to appear. The recording itself is not shown in the parent area and is deleted 30 days after the lesson. If you do not want the lessons recorded, write to support: without a recording the report has only what the teacher writes.
- Cancelling and moving
- A lesson cancelled more than 4 hours before it starts goes back to the balance. With 4 hours or less to go, the lesson can no longer be moved, and if you cancel it, it counts as held (it comes off the balance but fills no stone on the map); with less than 30 minutes to go it can be cancelled only through support. To move a lesson, press “Change the lesson” in the lesson's card more than 4 hours before it starts. The free trial lesson can be moved or cancelled until 4 hours before it starts, later only through support.
- Changing the teacher
- On a course lesson, press “Change teacher”: on Home it is under “Change the lesson” in the lesson's card, and in the schedule it is next to the lesson. Then choose “Only this lesson” or all remaining lessons on that day and time. For one lesson a calendar opens: “Any teacher, the soonest time” shows every free teacher, and “Same time, another teacher” keeps the time. For all remaining lessons, choose a teacher who is free at that time, or “Another day or time with a new teacher”. You see the new teacher before you confirm, and dates when that teacher is busy stay with the current one. The free trial lesson has no such button, and with 4 hours or less to go, write to support. To ask us to find a new teacher instead, press “Change teacher” in “Children and settings”: you do not have to say why, a new teacher is found within a day, and the lessons you have paid for stay.
- On another device
- In “Children and settings”, “Open on another device” shows a QR code and a link that open the child's area without signing in. The link works for 24 hours, so send it only to your child. With “Add phone” the child can also sign in on their own phone with their own number.
Plans, payments and messages
- Plans and price
- Plans, no packages: a monthly plan that renews every month until you turn it off, with no minimum term, or a course of 6 or 12 months that costs 5% or 10% less every month than the monthly plan. Every plan has 2, 3 or 4 lessons a week. The price is the same for every family, whichever teacher teaches, and you see it in your currency before you pay. You pay monthly. On the monthly plan each payment gives that month’s lessons, and the next month’s lessons are booked ahead so your weekly times stay; on a course, all its lessons are credited after the first payment.
- Several children
- One order and one payment can cover up to 5 children, each with their own teacher and schedule. The family discount is 5% for 2 children and 10% for 3 or more on each new course; courses already running keep their price.
- The offer after the trial
- Where it is offered, the first term of the first course is 10% cheaper for 48 hours from the moment you first open the offer. The message with the trial result has a link that opens the checkout with your child and the recommended number of lessons a week already chosen; it works once. No code is needed, and Home shows until when. A family gets the offer once.
- Renewal and failed payments
- The monthly plan renews every month until you turn renewal off in “Course”: it then ends at the end of the month you have paid, the lessons booked for the next month are released, and nothing more is charged. A 6 or 12-month course renews for the same length unless you turn renewal off; turning it off never cuts a course you have paid for, and its payments continue. Renewal uses the price named in the renewal notice, and a change of plan starts with the next month or term at the price you confirmed. If the price has risen by more than 25%, a course does not renew by itself. Pause is not offered. If a payment fails, future lessons are frozen but the plan is not cancelled, and the lessons return to their places once you pay. On the monthly plan, the lessons of an unpaid month are paused after 7 days, and if the payment provider stops trying, the plan ends. You may not get a message about it, so if lessons disappear from the schedule, look at “Course”.
- Refunds and withdrawal
- Within 14 days of the purchase, and before the first course lesson, you get a full refund. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you can withdraw from the contract within 14 days with “Withdraw from the contract”: held lessons are paid at the course price. In Israel you can cancel within 14 days of the purchase with “End the course early”: after the first course lesson you pay for the lessons already held and a fee of 5% of the course price or 100 NIS, whichever is lower. Later, and in other countries, the same button asks to end the course. It always sends a request, and support answers in writing before anything changes. Money paid by card goes back to the card, and money paid from your Balance goes back to your Balance.
What the parts of the parent area are for.
- Progress: the “This week” summary and “Words marked learned”.
- Messages: a chat with the child's teacher. The teacher answers in English, usually within a day. Payments and the schedule go to support, not here.
- Course: the course, its payments and renewal, and the refund and withdrawal buttons.
- Balance, where it is shown: money you add or get back. Use it to pay for a new course; monthly renewals are charged to your card.
- Children and settings: each child's profile and teacher, a new child, “Open on another device” (a link or QR code to the child's area), the child's own phone for signing in, Telegram and email for messages.
- Data and privacy: Speaky's memory, the AI features switches, taking your data out or deleting the profile.
How to help at home
What is yours to do.
- Before the first lesson: sign in, connect Telegram for reminders, allow Speaky if you want it, and check the camera and sound.
- After the trial lesson: read the teacher's recommendation on Home and decide: the offer after the trial lasts 48 hours.
- Every week: keep the regular schedule, read the lesson report and ask the dinner question, and move or cancel lessons early.
A regular schedule
Only lessons move the hero, so the main thing you can do is keep them regular. The days and times are chosen once for the whole course.
Choose days and timesCamera and sound before the lesson
Check the computer or tablet ahead of time, and open the kid area for the child when the lesson is near: the waiting screen opens 15 minutes before, and the room as soon as the teacher is in. With headphones, the child hears the teacher more easily.
Check the camera and soundThe report and the dinner question
Read the report after the lesson and ask the question from “Ask at dinner”. Let the child tell it in their own words, not as a test.
Open the reportsA little practice before the lesson
Press “Get ready for the lesson” on the island map together with the child: it is a game with the next lesson's words. No need to sit for long: game stars stop at 30 a day anyway.
Open the kid areaMove lessons early
If a lesson does not fit, move it or cancel it more than 4 hours before it starts. A cancelled lesson then goes back to the balance.

Common questions
- My child knows no English and is shy with new people. Is the trial lesson for us?
- Yes, the first lesson is made for a first meeting: pictures, single words and games, at your child's pace. The teacher speaks English, so for a beginner the pictures and the games do the explaining, and the buttons on the child's screen are in the child's language. A quiet first lesson is fine: the teacher does not push.
- What do we need for a lesson?
- A computer or tablet, best with a camera, an internet connection and the latest Chrome or Safari. Headphones help. There is nothing to install, and you can test everything ahead of time: Check the camera and sound.
- The child cannot get into the lesson. What do we do?
- Open the lesson again from the parent area with “Open the child's area”, in Chrome or Safari and not inside another app. For the trial lesson, “Send the link to the computer” sends a new link to another device. If that does not help, write to support right away.
- Do I need to sit next to my child?
- Be near, most of all in the first lessons and with children aged 4 to 6: help open the lesson and check the sound. Then let the child answer. When a grown-up answers, the child loses the practice.
- What happens after the trial lesson? Do we have to pay?
- No. The trial is free and needs no card. The account's home page shows the teacher's recommendation: the island to start from and how many lessons a week. If you want to go on, you choose a plan there: a monthly plan that you can turn off any time, or a 6 or 12 month course that costs less every month. Where the offer is shown, the first month of the monthly plan, or the first term of a course, costs 10% less for 48 hours from the moment you first open the offer.
- How much does a course cost, and can we get the money back?
- The price depends on the number of lessons a week (2, 3 or 4) and on the plan: monthly, or a course of 6 or 12 months. It is the same with every teacher, and you see it in your currency before you pay. Within 14 days of the first purchase, and before the plan's first lesson takes place, you get a full refund; the other cases are in Plans, payments and messages.
- Is the lesson recorded? Who sees what I write about my child?
- Lessons with a teacher are recorded so that the lesson report can be written and the quality of the lessons checked. The recording is not shown in the parent area and is deleted 30 days after the lesson. If you do not want the lessons recorded, write to support: without a recording the report has only what the teacher writes. What you write about your child yourself is seen only by the teacher and our support team; Speaky and the AI that writes the report use only the answers you pick from the lists.
- Will it be the same teacher every time?
- Yes. The course's lessons are booked with one teacher, and the course can continue with the teacher from the trial. If you want another one, press “Change teacher” on a course lesson (on Home under “Change the lesson”, or in the schedule) for that lesson or all remaining lessons at that time, or in “Children and settings” to ask us to find one: you do not have to say why, and the lessons you have paid for stay.
- We cannot make a lesson. What now?
- Move it with “Change the lesson” in the lesson's card more than 4 hours before it starts. A lesson cancelled more than 4 hours before it starts goes back to the balance of paid lessons. With 4 hours or less to go it can no longer be moved and counts as held if cancelled, and with less than 30 minutes to go only support can cancel it. The free trial lesson can be moved or cancelled until 4 hours before it starts, later only through support. A missed lesson does not come back to the balance.
- The lesson took place, but the hero did not move. Why?
- A stone fills when the lesson is completed and the teacher marks its topic as mastered. Until the teacher closes the lesson and saves that decision, the map waits. If the teacher chooses to repeat the topic, the lesson counts and pays its 10 stars, but the hero stays on the step. The trial lesson fills no stone: it sets the starting island.
- We have two children. How does it work?
- Each child has their own profile, teacher and schedule, and their own free trial lesson (up to 3 in a family; for more, write to support). You switch between the children in the parent area. One order and one payment can cover up to 5 children. When 2 children study with us, every new course costs 5% less; with 3 or more, 10% less.
- Where can I write if something is wrong?
- Email support@speakykid.com, Telegram @speakykid_bot or WhatsApp +1 442-222-2841.
